AI In Motion - The Institute of Applied's - a note about AI, technology and where we go from here

Behind the scenes: the Win Happy podcast

Greg Canty is, by his own admission, not Generative AI's biggest fan. So when we ended up sitting beside each other at a Chamber breakfast and he invited me onto the Win Happy podcast, the conversation was always going to be an interesting one.

We covered the family jewellery business, my engineering career, the juggle of work and family, and the pivot into applying AI in business. What neither of us planned was the twist in the edit. About twenty five minutes in, my microphone gave up. Greg worked through his usual repair software, then reached for an AI restoration tool he had never used before. It saved the recording. It also altered my voice in places and mispronounced the odd word, so he stepped back in to fix what it got wrong.

That is a better demonstration of applied AI than most case studies I read. A sceptic reached for the tool when it was genuinely the right one, kept his hands on the output, deleted what did not hold up, and told his audience exactly what happened. Judgement, oversight, transparency. There is good work to be done here, and this is what it looks like.

We recorded this before the summer, which already feels like a long time ago. That is the pace of it. You are flying the plane, with a very good crew on board, while still fitting the wings and the undercarriage.
